QHSE Manager
This product defence training series is written by Kassy Marsh who is a PCQI Lead Instructor (certificate #79fa1998) who also co-authored the book Assessing Threat Vulnerability for Food Defence. The methodology used is traceable to PAS 96.
On completion of this course, you’ll be a product defence ninja. Which means you’ll understand the subject of product defence, including fraud, sabotage, and terrorism. You’ll also know how to develop and manage the product defence system, identify vulnerable threats; upstream, internally and downstream, and complete the assessment to produce protection measures.
This super course contains all of our product defence mini training units, plus a course introduction and conclusion:
Unit 1 Understanding product defence – designed for all members of the product defence team.
Unit 2 Managing the product defence system – designed for the person who manages the system (system manager).
Unit 3 Identifying vulnerabilities upstream – designed for technical and procurement team members.
Unit 4 Identifying internal vulnerabilities – designed for security, HR and operational team members.
Unit 5 Identifying vulnerabilities downstream – designed for contract managers (those who manage contractors).
Unit 6 Assessing and protecting vulnerable threats – designed for all members of the product defence team.
This course will teach you the methodology you need to identify vulnerable threats, determine their significance, and then apply protection measures to significant vulnerabilities.
It explains how to then apply protection measures to significant vulnerabilities and the monitoring techniques that should be used.
Examples are provided so that you can see how the assessment can be documented.
Once you’ve completed this training, you’ll also know how to develop your product defence team and assign the required mini trainings to them based on their role.

About the training
This super course in product defence will teach you everything you need to know to become a product defence subject matter expert to meet the requirements of your BRCGS, FSSC 22000, IFS or SQF certification standard.
The course includes exercises and takes approx. 6 hours and 15 minutes without breaks.
The course is made an introduction, 6 units of training and a conclusion. After each unit there is a test which is made up of 25 multiple-choice questions. 70% is required to pass each unit and a certificate will be awarded on successful completion of the course. The test is open book and retakes are free of charge.
On completion of this course, it’s recommended that you go on to complete a training course in contractor management, to ensure that your PRP systems meet the requirements of product defence.
Methodology
This course teaches the well-known method provided in the book ‘Assessing Threat and Vulnerability for Food Defence’ by Adele Adams and Kassy Marsh.
This method has been improved to combine the decision trees from the original methodology into one – this is intended to simplify the process.
The course also includes additional new methods for simple identification of vulnerable threats internally and downstream.
Identifying vulnerable claims
The course provides clear guidance on how to assess the claims that you make about your product, to establish which claims are at risk from fraud.
The different types of claims are discussed and are separated into three distinct sources; material claims, manufacturing process claims and finish product claims. You’ll learn how to categorise these so that only the material claims are used, for the assessment to identify the associated vulnerable threats.

I’m enjoying the course so far! The course is laid out really well – it’s equally informative and engaging (which I think some online courses often get the balance between these wrong).
I like how it not only explains product defence but provides all the tools to understand how to put these in place as well.
Sophie Dickinson –
Great course, really helpful and easy to follow. There was quite a bit of repetition around the standard requirements, however overall the course exceeded my expectations.
Nick Skew –
Great course. Mind stretching! Now the hard work begins.
Anna Alimadhi –
I really enjoyed the course, the set up of units broke the subject into easy to absorb chunks. Following the lessons guide along the slides was great too as I was able to quickly go back if I needed some clarification or reminder.
Nick Pancholi – Pukka Pies (verified owner) –
This was a very well presented course and extremely useful. Being a visual learner myself, the theory supported by the imagery aided my understanding a lot and helped complete the sections in a shorter time frame. Furthermore, it was great to see the content was created taking into account the requirements from the different standards.
Andrew Paton – Red Deer Herbs –
This was an interesting course that was split into relevant sections and was set at a good pace. The layout of the course notes were easy to understand with examples, illustrations and tables, as well as references to relevant industry standards.

Excellent course!.
I have used the product defence book previously, however this course has really been useful.
It is also great that there are separate modules for different roles in the business which my team have found useful and excellent courses.
I am currently using Techni-K for many courses!

Thanks Leanne, we believe that training is more valuable when role-based for those who need to learn what is relevant to them. It means the training is more focused, wastes less time and is more engaging. This is one of our best selling courses so we’re really happy that you thought it was excellent, we wrote this course from a role perspective as product defence is a team effort on site and we think this approach really works.
Andrew King (verified owner) –

Thanks for your feedback on the course Andrew, we created this suite of training for product defence for the exact purpose you’ve mentioned – where those who are a part of your product defence team can now train for compliance in the specific part of the supply-chain they work in. We’re really glad you’ve been able to use the efficiency our training provides and hope its successful if its used in your systems and procedures.

Explained very well. Felt I had a really good grasp of what was required.
Practical enough that I could write our Product Defence system based on the exact approach of the course

Great course with good reference to industry practices. Having the tests after each unit was a good idea and I feel it helped with engagement.
Keith Cottrell – Pukka Pies (verified owner) –
Great course, really well presented. I did all the modules in quick succession so the repetition was more apparent but not a problem as helped cement some of the key points. Will be getting members of my team to do this course.
