Over 25 years’ experience in various technical roles ranging from cooked, ready to eat food to raw meat and fish.

I have extensive experience working with Environmental Health Practitioners, Food Standards Agency Veterinary Auditors, senior management and have good customer interface skills. In management roles, I have been pivotal in changing food safety culture to meet the needs of the BRCGS version 8.

My experience includes implementing numerous HACCP systems in both high and low risk products for manufacturers who supply retail sectors e.g. CO-OP, Sainsbury’s and Pret A Manger. My work required good product knowledge, process knowledge, communication and organisational skills. I have also implemented verification and validation systems to ensure that end products are safe to eat. Along with HACCP, I have written many quality manuals to meet SALSA and BRCGS standards.

I have experience in writing a food safety induction pack for Pop up Kitchens to meet the requirements of the Safer Food Better Business for Caterers and have experience in auditing restaurants to improve their hygiene rating and train them in allergen awareness.

To support the HACCP and quality manual, I have carried out several training sessions. The sessions include food safety at level 1 (Induction), level 2 (6-hour course) and level 3 (Intermediate). I have also carried out allergen training and implemented pertaining procedures.

Recently, I have been responsible for writing and communicating COVID-19 control procedures to raw meat cutting plants. Implemented a health and safety risk assessment to re-open a children’s nursery, and the local church.

I am a member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST). I am also a qualified auditor and mentor which is maintained through a Continuous Professional Development programme. I am a member of the IFST Food Safety Special Interest Group where I am group Secretary, who meet to discuss current topics. When I started in the food industry, I had no knowledge or experience of the industry. Within three years, I had my own team of three to manage, in four and a half years I was managing my own department within Technical. This shows that, within short spaces of time, I can grow and learn to succeed. With experience as a senior member of teams, including Technical Services Manager, across sites in Samworth Brothers, my knowledge of HACCP and Food Safety, complimented with a driven approach and excellent IT skills are perfectly suited to assessing and improving systems to drive improvements to quality, compliance and audit performance.

I’ve worked in all areas of Technical in action if not in name. I led the QA team through a BRC audit three weeks into a different role due to a staffing shortage, I’ve managed the lab team and regularly reported on speciation and micro testing internally and to retailers. I have done time and projects on the factory floor and feel comfortable in that and office environments. Though primarily working in Raw Materials and Technical Services, I’ve covered all aspects of Technical and can do so with confidence.
