What is the BRC Standard?

BRC stands for the British Retail Consortium, which was created in 1992. BRC Global Standard for Food Safety was originally created in 1998, in conjunction with the retailers, with the aim of producing one standard that food and drink manufacturers could adhere to, which would ultimately reduce the requirement for manufacturers to work to and be audited against a range of retailer standards.

The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety since then has been widely adopted in the UK and continues to grow around the world.

Today BRC Global Standards now have a range of Standards, which are generally reviewed and updated every three years, current pdf versions are:
